Shopping for a home? Test BEFORE you commit.
If a family member is sensitive to certain things (such as pet dander) TEST for it, to avoid future complications.
Why take a chance?
- Most home inspections do NOT check for asbestos, radon, humidity levels, moisture content of materials, CO, or mold in unseen areas.
- D&M Industrials, Inc. can sample the AIR for mold, therefore avoiding destructive measures to “see” behind walls.
- Bathroom was just remodeled? GREAT, right? Do you have proof of what is behind the sheetrock? Mold will continue to grow with moisture & organic material to feed on.
Building a new house? CONGRATULATIONS!
However, you are not in the clear for a 100% safe home. Here are a few things to consider:
- Make sure the building supplies have not been sitting in storage/inventory for a long time because they could contain asbestos. It DOES happen!
- Install a radon mitigation system because it is easier now than later.
- Confirm you will have sufficient air exchange from the outdoors for the size of your home.
- Work with your contractor to ensure you have good indoor air quality in your new home; please do not focus just on energy efficiency.
Most new homes are built “air-tight,” which is good for energy efficiency. However, indoor air quality is becoming a big concern because the “bad” stuff is stuck inside with you and your family. “Bad” stuff can harm your health at certain levels.
Existing Homes:
Asbestos was used in homes for MANY different reasons. PLEASE BE CAREFUL!

- Floor tile
- Vinyl floor
- Roof
- Decorative ceiling Insulation (attic, walls)
- Siding
- Insulation in HVAC systems
- Gaskets in fireplaces
- Seals around windows

- In good condition -- LEAVE IT BE!! Restrict the area to keep it in good condition.
- In bad condition – take care of it properly.
